Recce

Alternate video

This is my recce in which I look at things that could go wrong during my photoshoot.

Are there any potential hazards that could pose a health and safety risk where your photo shoot will take place (trailing cables/traffic/other objects )?
No, I have chosen a studio that is free of risk. There will not be any cables or any dangerous equipment. All machinery is kept padlocked away and I will not be able to use it without someone experienced alongside me.
What will you do to ensure these risks are minimised?
To minimise all risk, I will make sure I have adult supervision at all times and have Colin, who is an expert, check on me from time to time. I will also make sure that my models are aware of their space prior to the shoot and not too close to the lights and such.
Will the time of day/weather affect the outcome of the photos? Have you allowed for this?
I chose a studio so that I could be inside. Therefore, lighting and weather won't make much difference. However, on the journey to the studio, make up and hair could become messed up if there is rain or wind – I will try to pick a decent weathered day.
Have you considered the background to your photos, particularly if taken outside? How will you ensure you will get the background you want?
I'll have a choice of three colours. I think I will choose white because it is vibrant, the colours will stand out nicely against it and because it will be the easiest to change artificially if I looked into having a different background colour.
Have you considered lighting? What about the ‘problems’ of natural lighting, either outside, or streaming through a window? Will you need to use a flash? Have you considered reflective objects that might spoil the effect?
I will have controlled, four point lighting in a studio. They flash with the camera shot. It's quite professional. I've been assured that Colin will show me how to operate the lights on the day. I have also thought about how I'll need to remove Leah's glasses as, though she cannot see without them, they will reflect the studio lights – which is undesirable.
Do you need permission to take photos in the place/venue you have in mind?
Yes. I will obtain permission from the university.
Do you need to book time in a room (eg the photography studio at Shiney)?
I will be sending an email shortly to book the room for an hour or more if possible.
Are other people/crowds likely to be an issue for you? What have you done to ensure that it will not spoil the effect?
The studio is controlled and I am sure that there will be nothing in the background.
Are you reliant on lifts/props/friends’ equipment/models? How have you planned that these things will come together at the appointed time? Plan B?
I am planning to get a lift from my mother alongside my models so that we can all get there together. I already have my props in my home. There is a possibility that the car may not start or one or more of my models may not arrive. To minimise this, we will set off ahead of time and I have three girls so that if one girl does not show up, I will still have two models. If in the rare chance that all three cannot attend, my cousin would be happy to step in as she lives close to me and we could pick her up. Plan B in regards to travel would be to get the bus, which would not be ideal, or, if possible, my cousin may also be able to take me.
Finally, have you thought of every eventuality…?
I think I have. If a prop was to be broken, we have two stools so we have a spare. We have more umbrella's in our house. We also have multiple headphones – which don't need to be working for the photoshoot so they'd only need to be replaced if there was visual damage. I have accounted for every instance I can think of.
