- Post final products
-Check all posts are done
- Add alternative video links to videos

Reflect:

Final Products

These are the final products I have made.
A minor change was made regarding the bar-code on the front cover as it had the wrong price on it.

A change was also made to the contents page where subscription was listed as £6 a month even though my magazine is a monthly magazine. Now, it's £25 a year - which fits a monthly magazine.

A spelling error has been corrected on the DPS

Jan Calendar

I am finished with my product. This is my calendar for January. I have been very productive and managed my time well this month.

Contents Page #6 - Feedback

My cousin is a member of my target audience as he is a twenty year old man with a well-paying job who enjoys indie music. I asked him to look at the draft I've done and give me one-on-one feedback to help me improve:

Yeah, this looks better now that you’ve filled the extra space. And the black really makes them stand out. I like it. I think it looks really bold and good. I don’t have any complaints.

24th Jan

Aims:

- Produce contents page draft
- Receive feedback

Reflect:
I am very happy with this and I feel as if I'm close to completion with this product. I cannot imagine putting much more work in.

Contents Page #6

This fills up the page completely and makes it very visually exciting and beautiful to look at. I really can't imagine putting any more work into this as I've included everything I can think of. I am happy leaving this as the final draft I do.

23rd Jan

Aims:
- Produce final flatplan

Reflect:
I responded well to feedback given and adapted my flatplan to suit my target audiences complaints. It now fills the page and makes use of space more effectively.

Contents Page Flatplan FINAL REVISION

I have decided to make one last change based on the feedback I received and fill the page completely by altering some things. This is the last change I will make to my flatplan.
The page number in the top left corner corresponds with the placement of the page number on my DPS. Thus helps the pages work together as a whole instead of as three individual pieces of coursework.
The bars behind the title create visual excitement and appeals to the teen audience through this excitement.
The main image is still the focus on this page and will be edited to fit the red colour scheme still. The features section will be placed to the side of the image.
This is the place where it will be easiest to read, which means that the page functions as it should.
The editors note and competition title (which may not end up being about the competition if I decide that having the subscription information looks better) will be used to make the page look more full and add a personal touch to the page.

Front Cover #6 - Feedback

My cousin is a member of my target audience as he is a twenty year old man with a well-paying job who enjoys indie music. I asked him to look at the draft I've done and give me one-on-one feedback to help me improve:

The new thing at the bottom and the new barcode make it look a lot more professional and I think the fonts look a lot better. The black behind the text makes everything really stand out and it’s eyegrabbing. And I like the way you’ve changed the contrast on the image and added red into the shadows. It’s edited really nicely so that it’s eye grabbing. I don’t have any complaints on this one.

Contents Page #5

My cousin is a member of my target audience as he is a twenty year old man with a well-paying job who enjoys indie music. I asked him to look at the draft I've done and give me one-on-one feedback to help me improve:

This one matches your other pages a lot more now because you’ve taken some of the colour out of the models. You’ve made the T.A seem younger but I think you wanted that. It’s more colourful and more exciting and you’ve got a lot more red – which is really powerful. You’ve got a little bit of empty space, could you fill that?

20th Jan

Aims:
- Produce front cover draft
- Produce contents page draft
- Receive feedback

Reflect:
I'd be happy keeping both of these as final products. I'm incredibly happy with the way this has turned out. I feel like my products are professional and well put together.

Front Cover #6

This front cover has been made the most exciting it could possibly be without it becoming cluttered as it is now fuller and the colouring has been increased. This is visually exciting and exactly how I wanted my front cover to look.

Contents Page Draft #5

This makes my images all blend together and work as one complete whole as opposed to separate pieces of work. This makes the colour scheme stronger and takes more influence from Kerrang, especially with the new fonts used. The red has been brought to the front and that is what makes the image so powerful.

19th Jan

Aims:
- Produce new front cover flatplan

Reflect:
I like my new flatplan. I am confident that I am making progress again. I should be finished soon.

Front Page Flatplan FINAL REVISION

I am confident that I do not want to make anymore changes to this flatplan. It is full of conventions now and the page should be filled completely if I use this layout. This should solve the 'bland' problem I've been having. This incorporates a range of shapes in different sizes that will make the page look visually exciting and draw in attention.
It still takes heavy inspiration from this magazine but there have been a lot of additions.

Listing band names across the top draws in attention from anyone who recognises a name and wants to read about an artist they like. Having the title to the right instead of the left slightly breaks conventions and sets me apart from competition. Having my photo dominate the whole page creates visual interest and makes the image the most dynamic and engaging. Having the sell lines fit the curve of my models body is the most aesthetically pleasing. Having the addition of the sell line in the circle and the bar along the bottom makes all of the sell lines look different and stand out independently rather than having them all blur together and look dull.

DPS #3 - Feedback

My cousin is a member of my target audience as he is a twenty year old man with a well-paying job who enjoys indie music. I asked him to look at the draft I've done and give me one-on-one feedback to help me improve:

This one’s the best. The way you’ve edited the colour looks very professional and it creates a really strong colour scheme. The black and red and white contrast is strong and it’s really exciting to look at. I love this. I don’t have any complaints.

17th Jan

Aims:
- Produce a DPS draft
- Receive feedback

Reflect:
I'm very happy with the way my DPS looks. I can't thing of anything to change really. I feel as if it's the culmination of everything I've learnt on this course so far.

DPS Draft #3

This way of editing definitely makes this article more indie and more professional looking. The colour drain has brought out the red which makes this image more powerful and simplifies the colour scheme. This is a very aesthetically pleasing image and I can't think of anything else to change about it.

Contents Page #4 - Feedback

My cousin is a member of my target audience as he is a twenty year old man with a well-paying job who enjoys indie music. I asked him to look at the draft I've done and give me one-on-one feedback to help me improve:

The layouts changed to be more like Kerrang’s now. The bit along the bottom where it asks you to subscribe looks professional. I like that. I like the new font as well. It’s mature and it matches the rest of the page. And the line along the top where it says Jukebox, is that new? That looks good.

14th Jan

Aims:
-Produce a contents page draft
-Receive feedback for contents page draft

Reflect:
Feedback is starting to feel sparse because there's nothing really new to say. I feel as if progress has slowed a little bit so I'll be spending the next few days working twice as hard on drafts.

Contents Page Draft #4

This page is more visually exciting and blends together a range of different conventions and codes. I feel as if it's starting to look quite professional but I still need to make tweaks and improvements here and there to ensure that it blends with the rest of the magazine and that all pages work together.

Front Cover #5 - Feedback

My cousin is a member of my target audience as he is a twenty year old man with a well-paying job who enjoys indie music. I asked him to look at the draft I've done and give me one-on-one feedback to help me improve:

This one’s got a lot more colour. That makes it stand out and there’s contrast with the reds. You can see the highlights a lot better too. I don’t know if I like it. I think it might be too much and I think the contrast is a little bit too much. Maybe if it were slightly less saturated it would look better. I think you needed to add some colour but this was a bit too much.

13th Jan

Aims:
- Produce new contents page flat-plan
- Produce new front cover draft
- Receive feedback

Reflect:
I am happy with the new flatplan and I feel as if it will make my work seem more professional as it will create more visual interest. My feedback continues to help me improve my work.

5th Front Cover Draft

I added more colour to this by mixing contrasting colours but I feel as it's too much and it's overpowering and unpleasant to look at. I will not be keeping this but it was an interesting experiment. I still need to continue looking at ways to improve this product.

Contents Flatplan RE-REVISED

This has a lot more going on and is more visually interesting. It also obeys more codes and conventions. It mixes together these two contents pages and adopts conventions from both:

Having the editors note means that I can have a more personal touch on my magazine. As well as this, my page looks more full and complete now. It fixes the dullness problem that I was worried about across my pages. My focus is still on the image and that hasn't changed. I feel as if these changes in the revision have not only made my page more visually exciting but it looks cleaner and more professional.

Front Cover #4 - Feedback

My cousin is a member of my target audience as he is a twenty year old man with a well-paying job who enjoys indie music. I asked him to look at the draft I've done and give me one-on-one feedback to help me improve:

This one is really clean and professional. The red in the colour scheme stands out and really draws your attention in. Some of the text really blends in with the background so you might want to change that and make it stand out a bit more. I like the new placement on the Platinum City bit, I think that looks a lot better. It’s definitely improved a lot.

12th Jan

Aims:
- Produce front cover draft
- Receive feedback for front cover draft

Reflect:

I am happy with this product and with all the progress that I am making. I am confident that my end product will be significantly better.

Front Cover #4

This is very clear and the colour scheme is well defined. My only problem is that it seems a little bland. I feel as if it needs a little more colour or a little more going on. I will experiment around to see what changes I could make to make it feel less bland.

Contents Page #3 - Feedback

My cousin is a member of my target audience as he is a twenty year old man with a well-paying job who enjoys indie music. I asked him to look at the draft I've done and give me one-on-one feedback to help me improve:

The editor’s note looks more fancy here and I like that you’ve got a signature on it. It makes it seem more personal. And I think it’s clearer which page is associated with which article. The yellow also really directs your attention in. The features bit looks a bit out of place though because it appeals to a younger audience and the rest of the page is really mature. I don’t know though because I know you have a mixed target audience.

10th Jan

Aims:
- Produce contents page
- Receive feedback for contents page

Reflect:

The contents page has some clear problems that I will work to fix. I'm confident that I'm making progress.

Contents Page Draft #3

What I don't like about this is that the page numbers do not blend with the rest of the page and feel as if they came from a different magazine. I'm going to be editing this to see if I can make it blend more seamlessly. For now, I'm not happy with this.

DPS Feedback

I may put page numbers on both pages as this would help my readers to navigate my magazine at the same time as filling up space on my page.

This tells me that I should keep these aspects the same.

I feel as if there is plenty of color present on my DPS so I don't know if this feedback is suggesting I try different colors. I'm not sure if I want to do this because I like the red color scheme.

I'm not changing the red color scheme. I have considered other colors and the red is the most powerful. I could change the font in the text however I like the readability of the one I have now. I will be changing the font size though.

I don't think I need subimages on my double page spread.

If the font looks better smaller than I'll likely add more text.

I will make it smaller.

Friday 6th Jan

Aims:
  • Work on drafts
Reflect:
I have changed some things on my front page draft.
I will continue to work on this.

2nd Jan

Aims
-  Produce DPS flatplan

Reflect:

I didn't have much time to do this but I realised I wanted to have it done before now and made sure to do something that I could be proud of. I'm happy with this flatplan.

DPS Flatplan

This is my DPS flatplan.
It's fairly standard but covers main conventions and will look very nice. I don't plan on having anything too extravagant.
This looks very standard and is based on a myriad of DPS's that I have seen.
I have the bar along the top so that the page number stands out and doesn't blend in the with the image. I feel as if this is the cleanest way to separate the two.
I chose to have the pull quote/title as big at the main text to attract attention and make it clear that this is the most important article. It also appeals to the teen portion of the audience who prefer less text. This fills up the space on the page without it being full of text.
My main image will dominate the right page completely, this shows the importance of my girls.
I will continue the red colour scheme that ties all of my pages together. The title will be red and so will the pull quotes. I will edit the image so that it will have more red in it.
